Power Yoga

Power Yoga (2017) suggests a form of yoga fit for the public authority figure of the police officer through subversive parody. The term ‘power yoga’ refers to a westernized, fitness-based approach developed in the mid-1990s adapted to suit the needs of gym culture, focusing on building strength and endurance in spite of the tradition’s slower, meditative pace. The work thus draws associations between appropriation and hypermasculinity through the roleplay of performed ‘policeness’.
